The governorate of Lahj is located in the southwest of the Republic of Yemen. It is connected to the governorates of Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale and Taiz from
the north, Aden governorate and the Gulf of Aden from the south, Abyan governorate from the east, and Taiz governorate from the west. It is 320 km away from the capital, Sana'a.
The area of the province is about 12,648 km2.
According to the results of the 2004 general census of population, housing and establishments, the population of Lahj governorate reached (727,694) people, and this number increases annually by (2.63%).
The governorate is divided among (15) districts according to the last administrative division as follows:
Archaeological and historical monuments vary in the governorate, the most important of which are: Al-Anad Castle, Munif, Al-Harqan, Wadi Tibn, the Grand Mosque, Al-Maqatirah Castle, Mount Saba, Buran region, Mount Saba, Buran District, Al-Maqtara Castle, Al-Hajar town.
In general, the climate in Lahj governorate is characterized by mild winters and high summer temperatures.
