Ibb governorate is located in the central part of the Republic of Yemen. It is connected with Taiz governorate to the southwest, Al-Dhale governorate to
the southeast, Dhamar governorate to the north, and short borders with Al Bayda governorate to the east and Al Hudaydah governorate to the west. Ibb is about (193 km) away from the capital, Sana'a. The governorate is known as the "green / fertile province" due to its heavy rainfall and green landscape.
Ibb has an area of about 5,552 km² distributed over twenty districts.
Its population was estimated at around (2,131,861) people according to the 2004 census, making it the most densely populated governorate in Yemen outside of Sana'a city. Its population increases annually by (2.47%).

The governorate includes various tourist and historical sites, such as are:
Sumara Castle, Jabal Hob Fort, Attaker Fort, Jiblah town, Dhafar town, Ezz Fort, Wadi Bana, the High Jalaliyah School, Rabbi Mountain, Yafouz Fort and the Queen's Mosque.
Ibb governorate enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year, with heavy rains and cold weather.
