Al-Bayda governorate is located southeast of the capital, Sana'a, about 268 km away from it.
The area of the governorate is about (9314) km2 distributed over (20) districts.
Its population reached (577,369) people, according to the results of the 2004 census, with an annual growth rate of (2.39%).

The governorate has many archaeological and historical monuments, the most important of which are:
Al-Bayda Castle, Suq Shammar, Wadi and Sharjan Dam, Al Marwajah Fort, Emhaqah Jabal (Mount), As Suwadiyah Castle, Al-Ameriyyah School, Rada'a Castle, Al-Baghdadiyah Mosque and School.
The governorate is moderate in summer and cold in winter in the mountainous highlands. The desert regions have hot climate during summer, moderate winters during the day and tends to be cold at night.
