The governorate of Abyan lies on the coastal strip of the Arabian Sea in the south of the country. It borders Shabwa Governorate to the east, Aden
Governorate and Lahj Governorate to the west, Shabwa Governorate and Al Bayda Governorate to the north, and the Arabian Sea to the south.
The size of Abyan Governorate is about (21,489) km, divided into 11 districts.
Abyan’s population, according to the results of the General Population, Housing and Establishments Census 2004, reached (433,819), with an annual growth rate of (2.47).

The governorate contains lots of tourist and historical sites, the most important of which are:
Zinjibar Museum, Al-Mashhoor Museum, Khanfar Mountain and Fort, Shuqrah town.
There are two climates in the province. The mountainous regions are dominated by a moderate climate to warm in the summer and cold in the winter, while in the southern parts the climate is hot in summer and warm in winter.
