In a new humanitarian and development achievement, the emergency department at the health center in Kharaz refugee camp, located in Al-Madharibah wa Ras Al-Arah District, Lahj Governorate, was opened. The department was built by HUMAN ACCESS with funding from the Hungarian Aid Agency.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of the Director General of the Office of the Governor of Lahj Governorate, Khaled Al-Jawi, the Deputy Director General of the Public Health and Population Office in the Governorate, Dr. Abdulhakim Naji, and the Secretary General of the Local Council in the District, Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Alqami.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Somali Ambassador to Yemen, Mr. Abdulhakim Mohamed, the Director of the UNHCR office in Aden, Mr. Mohamed Rafiq, and a number of camp residents who expressed their joy at this health achievement.

During the opening, several speeches were delivered praising the efforts to complete this medical department for its importance in supporting the health infrastructure and sustaining medical services in emergencies, which helps enhance the protection of the most vulnerable refugees and members of the host community.

The emergency department at the health center will improve the response to critical cases and provide emergency health services to more than 20,000 residents of Kharaz camp and surrounding areas, who face challenges in accessing basic health care services amid a protracted humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
